I agree Terry . The D3 is an awesome setup for those that can justify ( afford ) the cost . I shoot a lot more wildlife and sports these days , so the DX sensor size works for me . But , I would have preferred to go the D3 route . It's just a money thing :) If you are coming from a D200 , you will find that the D300 is a nice step up in almost every regard . Especially AWB and AF .

Rob,
I played with the D3 and D300 in Shibuya at the Nikon Gallery and fell in love with the D3. $5200 for the d3 though, Doh! The speed of the D3 is blinding. That 3" monitor is awesome(on both cameras)!
I really don't want another DX camera. DX works well with sports and wildlife but not architecture and landscape. I used a 14-24 while in Japan and just wasn't very satisfied. I like using the 24-85 and 16mm Fisheye on my F100 so much better.
I know a D3 or D300 is in my future though. Cheers, Terry

Thanks Terry . I really like the D300 . I've owned several of the Nikon DSLR's so far ( D70, D1x , D200 , D2Hs ), and IMO , the D300 is the best DX format camera Nikon has ever made . The D2 series has better ergonomics ( again IMO ) , but the D300 makes up for it with far superior AWB and resolution .
