Oops! Should be: "..., but note that the light and the hue range are different stories."

Cheers,

Nick

Then it is even more remarkable, Shirley, that you achieve such results with so few means!

The soft effect, of which you talked about, is similar but not really the same as an inversion layer and a crop in this case. The transition to those "fuzzier" regions as we proceed from the center to the edges of the image may be of similar look and feel, but not the light and the hue range are different stories. What you say is like equating hall and echo with stereo chorus.

Cheers,

Nick

Thank you so very much for your thoughtful comments, Nick! However, I do not use Photoshop but a simple software, Microsoft Picture It. As far as your crop, I might as well have just kept the original and cropped it, with a soft effect around the edges.:)

It's a very very interesting image to see how the inverted makes the transition to the normal so seemlessly! A very well thought out work with PS, that shows that this software is much more than applying filters just as they come - as we often see from too many wannabes. The exciting thing here is that there is no real boundary between positive and negative!

I would prefere an even stricter version of it, something like the attached image that enhances also the purity of a monochrome!

As a side note here, again you put ideas and questions in my mind. Hmmm, could that be achieved with camera/lens only? Lemme think, lemme think!

Cheers,

Nick

A crop for a stricter version

I love when you use your creativity but here I must confess that I prefer the original photo, dear Shirley. Well I prefer the very first showing her in gothic style:-)
Take care and have a great weekend;-)
