Which for me is another hint for separating capable actors from the many "dramatic wannabes" of this site, that pose and pose and pose... without conveying anything at all! ;-)

Yes, Nick, they were instructed to stand where they are, but they're also both capable actors, so looking spontaneous is easy for them.

It's a great shot with very well balanced lighting and strong separation of the foreground and the background, Paul! This separation works not only because of the selective focus but also because of the lighting difference of their faces. While the woman's face is almost high-key the face of the man is almost low-key. This makes the contrast between the two very strong.
But above all I find it very interesting as it looks much like the artwork of records of independend labels. Did you directed the two to stand this way? It seems so "carefree" but it is exactly this "carefree" that is hard(est) to get.
