About I guess there is a need in us all to leave trace of some sort- to show that we have breathed the air on this planet and stepped on the grass, touched someone´s heart.

I didn´t know about the aboriginals and this beautiful tradition. I have also made prints of my daughter´s hand in cement and clay, but not directly from birth:-)
Yes, as conscious beings we should leave trace of some kind, not only for selfish reasons, but also to fill out space in a qualitative manner. We are extremely fortunate being alive and it would be waste of good life and opportunities not leaving something for future generations, something to think about, something that makes one´s heart beat faster.
I am so amazed by your comment, dear Greeneye. You are really worth the effort making such photos for. THank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yes, many people don´t want tombstones, but they seem to forget that although the important memories are not at the graveyard then it is still nice having a place to go to and dwell for a while. At least I think so:-)
Thanks for your words, dear Rog. Yes, we´re all moving in one direction, we may pray, beg, cry, be angry and frustrated but it´s no good, so we might as well try to live as happily as we can. We´re leaving trace as well, aren´t we?;-)

Ok, this image evokes much in me, as you did in a few other pics of yours treating pritty much similar idea of an artist and his/ her crises. this is my favoritte.
traces! the Aboroginians, once a baby was born they took their hand and put it against a wall/ rock, and then put some paint over the hand, and that was allegedly their first contact with the mother earth and they marked it! in fact the baby's first contact with the earth was once it gotten out of womb, onto whoever's hands- but that is not enough!
in our modern world, well we have zillions of other choices of leaving traces. and it should not be a question of whether we should or not, it is a must- otherwise we are dead flesh walking! pure existence, with mind and soul, and without going into primordiality or postmortem issues or reincarnation or anything like it-- but rather just be prisoners of our senses, five or six or how many they are, and with them percieving the environment around us- the way we percive it, that's the best way and then a practical reaction to it.
i personally love when i get some book and as i leap through pages, i encounter some bottom of a teacup in one of the pages, or a thought made word or so--- it's just a mere sign of life!
as for your picture, i said it is my favorite of those that you bring film as a major illustrative element, giving a hint that you are talking about the artist of photography, you, or so i get it, and than all that trace texture in the background, ground- earth, and the main subject with her head in her hands- sitting in pain (i like this word pain) and in doubt or maybe just contemplating how to use that film roll for a trace!
Dear blueyed friend, thanks for sharing, and i have to let you know that all the pictures of your stir a lot of thoughts in me and i love that but always lack behind in letting you know about that, but i am around anyhow,
my best wishes,
V.

what does the sign say in the Blue Mountains National Park.. leave nothing but footprints take nothing but photographs... yeah more than a tombstone eh.. well my mum n dad dont have tombstones.. it was their express wish that when they died.. their ashes be spread together in a high lake in Australia.. so we (their children me my big brother Peter my little brother Ian and my sister Sally did that... Peter turned 60 the other day.. OMG its happeneing to me too.. "when I am pinned and wriggling on the wall" or perhaps more succinctly
" But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed,
Though I have seen my head [grown slightly bald] brought in upon a platter,
I am no prophet—and here’s no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker,
And in short, I was afraid.

No really- as long as I feel there are thoughts and no anger behind, then I feel very grateful and enthusiastic loving suggestive photos myself, artwork that stirr something in people:-)I can only thank you for taking the time to think about my photo:-)

Thanks for your reply, Annemette. Things are clearer for me now. I love that you liked my comment, as I was a little afraid that you wouldn't take it as the constructive critique it was. Thanks again to you!

Thank you dear Jan for leaving such a thorough comment! The use of film was merely a metaphor for leaving trace of some sort- it might as well have been a book, a child, a brush or something else.
Still I do agree about the environmental aspect!
Thanks:-)

I am so delighted getting such a comment.
What I meant about this photo is that as human beings we have a strong urge to keep on living and certainly leaving trace, to be memorized, to live on in some way, so the short time we spend on Earth will mean something also in the future.
This urge and fear to be forgotten for always sometimes leave a being deperate.
We can set our marks in many ways, by means of children, artwork, heroic deeds, cruelty, politics etc. Indeed we should be determined and happy, but the dark side also shows its face once in a while. That is part of being alive.
Thanks again- I do love getting such a comment:-)

Wonderful tone & texture. But if our trace on this Planet is to be left as clean and green then film should be abandoned for the more environmentally friendly digital form. Then our tracks will touch the heart of future as well as current generations.
--best to you, Jan

Should people who wants to leave trace be desperate, dubitative, in interior pain, like the person in the image, or maybe they should be facing life bravely, without questioning themselves, decided. Determination in such a mission is very important and I think the image doesn't express that. Well, maybe I haven't understood it ;)
Good composition indeed.

yes we are prisioners by photography so old film is a good surrogate, but in these days of digital how can we express it?; very good Anne...txules
