What a wonderful photo! Very beautiful! Lightning, composition, everything! I wouldn't even have thought of any grass straw if you didn't "talk" about it, I think this is a wonderful and perfect shot!

Here's the head portion cropped out of the full-size frame, though probably the forum software will reduce it in size a bit. I think the darker area on the swan's face contributes to the illusion. Interesting...

Thanks, Leslie! No cloning. That blade of grass is actually behind her head, though I agree that it does indeed give the appearance of being in front with a discontinuity through her head. It's a strange effect. I'd be happier if the blade wasn't there at all, though I won't clone it out. :) Again, I appreciate your comments.

I love the composition...she looks as though she is sitting on a nest...but I love the feel of being a peeping tom looking through the grass....excellent color and exposure only... one little thing to pick on, it appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that you cloned out a blade of grass directly in front of her face...there are no visible tell tale signs other than the fact that the blade (blurred) directly above her head seems to connect to the one just below her throat...whether or not it was cloned doesn't matter...the one blade is a distraction...it is still a beautiful picture with excellent clarity
