What a fabulous looking pier. The fog certainly gives this photo and eerie cold feeling. I was just wondering are they lights on top of all the poles? If they are I imagine this would look spectacular all lit up at night. Great capture.

Thanks a lot for the attached image that I do find much more preferable! And this not only for the frame but also for the image itself, especially the coloring!
But what was your initial goal? Perhaps only letting the image blend into the UF BG??

Thanks Nick (did you call ME Dave)? I actually banked on the overexposure so I could lose the border and blend this into the UF BG . . . uhhhh . . . and (IMO) your border is too thick. Normally, of course, I do use a thin black perimeter border to help define the image. Fog under harsh daylight is preternaturally bright nd I do have some better exposed . . . that simply wasn't my goal here! Attached is the routine way I would have adjusted the light in the sky. Do you find it preferable?

I think that there is some amount of overexposure here, Dave, though still the details on the interesting parts are very nicely captured and the composition is a very vivid one in depicting that coming and going of the people. Very interesting to see that limitless DoF is still possible under such a focal length!
And wouldn't some dark background color help to define the limits of the photo better?

As it happens I have a variety of shots under a variety of conditions. Here, I was thinking of the bright fog becoming something I could use to merge the shot into the UF background. Technically . . . the Light of the sun and the fog make this a very good copy of the condition . . . though I did adjust to change to #f3f3f3 on the color for the no border look.
I took another shot about a year ago at twilight . . .

Impressive constraction Doyle, surely worths the interest, hmmmmm.... the photo taken by a great point of view and the only thing I have to critique here is the background....hope you could have a better weather OR anyway different lighting conditions, like a sunset for excample, the background looks overexposed and I don't think you (and anybody) can do a lot for that to be better... anyway, that is not of course a critique as I cannot think any kind of technique to take a shot like that well...if you try to have good sky, the object that you shot will be underexposed strongly...so that is surely better...
Under that weather, your photo is excellent!

mmmm I have a thing for piers ever since I was in England on my own for three weeks when I was 15. I loved the piers in Brighton and I wish they would build such ones in Denmark considering we´re completely surrounded by water.
The fog makes the pier almost float on the water and into eternity! Good line through the photo.

Not too troubling . . . I had variations throughout the in-rolling fog and replaced only the one color . . . the remaining variations . . . though slight still exist and the eye fills in the gaps.

"Replaced white with UF BG color" - but I can see the join, which is a little puzzling.
Business dinner reservations can be tricky things and can take a lot of time. So much to check out, so much to anticipate. Always best to take a camera along...
Far be it from me to suggest an ulterior motive (just in case the threat of a sound thrashing moves closer to reality), but I wonder if you had to check out a range of potential locations for dinner!?
This location looks pretty good to me. I like the way the lamps stand out against the fog, and the building on the pier is rather elegant.

Actually, this was not using a telephoto, but the 105mm Micro lens! I couldn't get too far back due to the fog . . . so took this from a parking lot about 25 feet above the beach . . . we were making reservations at a restaurant for a business dinner and needed to check the view and accomodations . . . and . . . well . . . I HAD my camera with me. :) ...Looks like I'm ALMOST back to normal (well as normal as I ever was anyway)!
The pier has an aquarium and Ice cream stand . . . I haven't ever been on this one, preferring to shoot it from a distance . . . but when I zoomed in on the image I saw the signs. NOW, I might just have to go! :)

A beautiful image with great detail and depth Doyle...
I also like the UF BG on the top half of the image..It works for me.....
The angle makes me wonder where You are BUT then I remember what a zoom lens you have.... What cool pier and Great shot my friend .. ..
