Hi Michele,
Thanks for the comments. The posts are channel markers, navigation aids or buoys for the canal. We were in a boat on the Tay Canal when the shot was taken. Check out this shot it gives you another view.

That is some kind of pose You caught there Joe ---Perfect timming my friend and a beautiful bird as well.
I love those colored and rusty posts the birds seem to sit on- they work great in your shots as I have noticed them a few times...I like them. Excellent shot Joe- I love this one really a lot !
