Michele . . . FYI, there is an interesting online article ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banyan ) about this tree . . . and it mentions THIS tree in your photo in particular. Truly fascinating. The branches do, indeed, grow their own roots!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Michele:

Perfect subject with some fascinating details and I'll not bother to comment on the white (Ooooops) since I KNOW you know already anyway what people think. I happen to think you may have had the right idea even though initially I also thought the white burned area really was distracting!

Michele . . . this was a great and interesting subject to shoot. To be completely honest, I think I would have tried to capture this at night with a flash (and, you know me, a remote flash behind a tree or something) . . . But have NO doubt . . . this would have captured my attention too!

I LOVE that you immediately thought about how to get rid of the distractions and, in fact, I took a look at this I never, ever would have thanks to your idea here. Frankly, I think you've come up with a very creative approach and given the right software editing tool . . . . You'd have done it too! I'm referring to the burned out area, of course . . .

Since I'm not on a computer with any editing software, I simply loaded your image in Windows Paint and spray painted white over the few remaining distractions. I gotta say . . . Wow. I think the distraction comes not so much from the white as from the partial images still visible in the white. Normally, I expect you know, it would be best, and usually first choice to adjust the aperture and get the shallow DOF to blur out those BG distractions instead of expose them out. Then again . . . 'Normal' is not 'inspired' . . . ;)

Great subject . . . great idea . . . FRAMED(!) . . . focal clarity . . . creative solution to the problems presented . . . WOW~! Impressive stuff!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Thank YOU dear riny for the kind comment... I am glad you like the very old tree's and it is a shame the image was over-exposed... but I was trying to hide the traffic behind the tree's --no excuses I guess, but I thank you for your support !! It's 30 degrees here and sunny too , Hugs dear friend.... from Or. USA..michele~

Excellent photo! It´s almost paintinglike and very fascinating! I remember seing such trees in the Caribbean, I think. Incredible how they grow!
Very nice, Michele, but maybe try to erase or clone the cars out leaving just these wonderful roots? I had a feeling you tried to hide the traffic by means of light and contrast.
Take care:-)

Impressive trees, surely unique, it reminds me some trees of Amazon river, into the water. Nice details, looks like they are connected and ...dance in a cirqle!
Best regards!

Lovely composed image Michele, the crop highlights the root system which is very good. The blown out background adds to the image since thee is no distraction.
Nice work Michele.
Take care

hi michele. nice picture! The white is indeed a little bright, but it gives the picture a nice atmosphere and brings out the branches more. So I like it. I agree with you that the traffic shouldn't be visible, it is distracting, so it is good that you looked for a solution. Also nice detailed sharpness on the branches. Well done. All the best, Marco.

I agree about the whites, but this is such a fascinating tree that it really doesn't matter about that. If you look hard you can see the shapes of people in the roots.

Thanks for your kind comment on the picture of my cat Socks, she is quite a little miss mischief….. :))

Michele Carlsen Michele Carlsen   {K:146013} 4/10/2007
Thank YOU Pablo--- I understand what you mean and I should have written that I meant to lighten the BG to fade out the traffic in the city as I couldn't darken it and didn't want it so visable. Thank You for pointing that out !!! Much appreciation,
Michele~
