Hi Andre and many thanks for your nice comment.
Perhaos you could give me some examples of such not so usual colors on my photos? If I have such an intention, I think, it's more or less the intention that we all have, to make a photo that is special in some way. And sometimes it is its coloring, or so I think.
But it seems you noticed something that I really do quite often. If you take a look at the histograms of many of my photos then you will see that they have an "U"-shaped histogram. Extreme enhancement of shadows and lights and almost nothing inbetween. Perhaps I am a friend of very strong contrasts, which would also fit my own character in many other ways.
Again many other of my photos (like for example this one) have only a single intense color band somewhere in the color spectrum, and all the other colors are almost neglidgible - much like doing a B&W and inluding a single color on it while the rest remains B&W.
Both ways reduce the photo to a presentation of "the important in the unimportant" - which we can also achieve with selective focus. On this one the selective focus fitted very well the "selective coloring", I guess.
To do that "selective coloring" I often make a single spot metering of light at the color of interest and just let the rest get exposured as it gets exposured. Extermely unbalanced coloring, if you like. I think that this is indeed something I like very much. In a way, it resembles what you said about devices that should do some few things perfectly instead of doing a bit of everything. Just see what is important, get that as perfectly as possible, and ignore all the rest.
I hope I was able to answer your question, which gave me really much to think about my own approach.

I only wish I had also a photo with the whole tree in sharp focus infront of that blurry muted background. Perhaps I should give that a try.

Hi Nick,
I like the look of this one for it's colour combination and very nice composition. You have a knack of getting some colours in your images that are not as common as most of the photos posted. I think that's a good thing. I wonder if you do this intentionally?

Beautiful colours, tones and textures in this picture. The blurry muted toned background is a wonderful foil for the vibrant flowers in front.
