Yes, they do look like bones somehow. I think it was the very big difference in light strength between them and the background that turned it this way. So I had much luck to be there just at the time when there was still snow on the branches but nowhere else in the scene. It was the snow, I guess, that made the brnaches look as if they were glowing in front of the much darker background.
