That's quite a bit better Kara. I believe it's easier if you can do it when you are taking the shot. I've heard of people who place a black board other suitable colour behind flowers to get an appropriate bg. Also if you can open up the aperture you can reduce the dof and hopefully blur the bg.

Nice shot Kara. Sharp focus on the buds. Nice composition on buds with stems curving up from the bottom. The bg, although out of focus, is still a little busy and distracting.
