Hi Joe, The photo you sent me is a Black Backed Jackal, we don't get them in this part of SA. The Polecat is like a weasel or a ferret, very cute. Years ago when I first moved here there was a family of them lived in the bush at the back of the farm but I havent seen them for many years now. Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, I'm sorry to hear you do not feel safe to wander around the bush. I've heard of polecats but I'm not familiar with them. I think I'll Google it. Here's what I got. Is this what you have on your property? http://www.museums.org.za/bio/images/hgr/hgrb0454_m.jpg
We have deer in the area, we used to have a lot more but last fall a lot were killed in the annual hunt, as well we hear coyotes all the time and I think they have had a significant impact on the deer population. The deer that remain are now more elusive. Can't blame them!
All the best, Joe

Hi Joe, You are right we do have wilderness areas, in fact, I live on 23 acres of land, of which, three quarters of it is a wilderness.. I do have deer on my place but they are so shy. We don't have squirrels around here. We have polecats but they are elusive too. Its not so safe to wander around alone in the bush here any more there are too many farm murders happening at the moment. Sylvia

Thanks Sylvia for viewing and the very nice comments, much appreciated. We are fortunate to have an abundance of wild life in this area. I'm a little surprised that you do not have many wild critters in your area. I have very little knowledge of South Africa but I am under the impression that you have significant wilderness areas.
All the best, Joe

Hi Joe, I just found this little cutie in your portfolio:) What a great shot! Your wildlife photos are brilliant, you are so lucky to have all these animals close by you. I live in Africa and I saw a hare for the first time ever in my back field the other day An obvious 7++++++++++++++

Having been shooting (not literally...) squirrels myself over the last few days, I feel compelled to comment! You've done really well here, capturing all the "squirrelness" of these wonderful creatures. I find the dark triangle at top right a little distracting though, and would rethink the frame (something simpler).

You´re welcome, Joe. I´m only starting to use frames, so I´m no expert, but visually I think it´s best with rather simple frames in colours that don´t take the eye away from the image, but only supports it and makes the image stand even more out. Well, a bit like a document where one shouldn´t have lots of different types that confuse and make a mess of typography:-) Best wishes Annemette

Thanks Annemette for viewing and commenting on the image. I really appreciate your input. Hard to know what works best with the frame. Frame or no frame, colours and complexity. I feel I will have rethink my approach to frames and keep them simple to ensure that they don't distract from the image. Have a great day.

Such a cute one:-) We have red squirrels in Denmark too, but they are very red/orange like a fox and smaller. Funny animals with a great personality. Very good clarity and angle. I´m not crazy about the green frame, but the grey works really well. Best wishes Annemette

Hi Meg, thanks for the comments. The red squirrels are quite aggressive for their size. We have the larger black and grey squirrels as well.

A loveley shot of this red squirrel. I remember a time when they were often seen here, now all we see are the grey ones.
