In most cases, I tend to feel the same way about color. But I think it's more difficult to achieve a dynamic shot in B & W -- so this is really a skillful achievement. Congrats.

Thanks Maryanne. I'm glad you like this shot. I seldom take B&W images. I feel, in most cases, that colour contributes to the composition. I felt this shot was an except as there was very little colour in the original and B&W actually strengthened the contrast and thus the image. Regards.

Nice winter scene (and not as scary as the fly).
Seriously, I do like this shot -- very good contrast.

Hi Joe, You are most welcome!! And, strangely enough, we do have snow in South Africa but its usually on the mountains :-) And believe it or not, in certain places below freezing temps. Sylvia

Hi Joe, Lovely contrast. I like the tyre tracks, they are telling a story! I can almost hear the snow crunching under my feet

I wouldn't change a thing on this one. I find with snow, the only way to keep detail and have that really white colour is to take pictures on reaally bright days, this is not allways, or even usually, and option in Canada.
I like the crop and the way the tire tracks pull you throught the photograph. Well done.

Being relatively new to this site, I am just starting to assemble my portfolio here. I have intentionally selected a cross-section of my work. I am interested pretty much in all aspects of the photography. Thanks for checking out my images.
All the best.

Very nice winter scene. Too bad you've lost your snow following your bout of unseasonable weather. Perhaps we can ship you some of ours.... LOL... I liked the cropped example that was posted as well, but as you say, part of the strength of the original is the curve of the road leading from the foreground and taking the eye through the picture and out the other side, as it were. Very 3D.

Thanks Vanessa for the kind words. This scene is about 100 metres from my home. Unfortunately, if you were to walk there today it would be nothing like this. We seem to have been hit hard by climate change this year and due to the unseasonable warm weather all our snow is now gone. Today is +5 deg C. It should be -5 deg. C. :( Anyway they are forecasting colder weather starting tomorrow which should run through until at least the end of the month, I hope. Maybe we will get some more snow.

i thought you may have ben going for the detail of the snow. well it crossed my mind anyway. as far as the croping. i gues it was a compulsive thing and since the tracs as you said vanished it was empty space. but anyways thats the beauty of art. i do like the way you took the photo and the tracs do enhance the flow of the path.
im still some what new to this. so i take a mix of photos in color or b/w on the camera. but i ushualy edit the images into b/w after uploading. b/w fascinates me. cat nap and walk in the fog are curently my fav shots.
ill keep watching your shots you have a good eye im sure ill enjoy more to come.
good luck Michael

Hello Joe, I like this pic very much, the composition is IMO outstanding, the crop Michael made of it it good too, but I like yours better because of the curve in the path that makes the picture more complete and thrilling. Good choise for B&W. By the way, welcome to Use. Take care,
Klaas

Thanks Michael for the interest in my shot. I don't have a problem with you editing my image. Before I posted the image I had adjusted contrast and gamma levels Photoshop Elements 5. I found that if I increased the brightness I lost detail in the snow, specially the wheel tracks which I feel is an important element of the image. By increasing the contrast I have lost most detail in the larger trees. They are now almost solid black. I don't feel that a big problems though. Not sure why you cropped the image. I prefer broader view of the original and you have cropped out most the curves of the wheel tracks at the bottom. I like the way the curved wheel tracks lead your eye into the image.
I quickly checked out the images you have posted. You have some real nice shots. I really liked Cat Nap and a Walk in the Fog. Do you take colour shots as well?
All the best.

verry nice shot. seems alittle dark i realy hope you dont mind but i put you photo through photo shop and adjusted the curves, histogram, and recroped it just to make an example. from what ive ben reading in a digital photography book. you should have pure white and true black and every shade of grey in between. i know my shots arnt so great. but i realy liked your photo and wanted to see how it would look alittle brighter. hope you dont take ofense to me doing this none was intended. best regards. Michael :)
