About I probably won't be posting in a while. Honestly, I've been a bit discouraged from the whole photography thing. I know awards on this site aren't a big deal and one shouldn't judge their own photographic merit by whether they've gotten one or not, but every day goes by and I find nearly 300 pics uploaded and apparently none of them award worthy. I wonder if my efforts are focused on a talent worth developing? Anyway, no pity party needed...just felt like "typing" it out...the fiance's not here to vent to. :-P

This is another one of my students who found his way to the top of the playground equipment and I liked the way the negative space beneath him makes the photo feel slightly unnatural.

Thank you very much, Marco. I'm always glad to hear exactly what things people appreciate. It's hard to know what aspects of one's photography one should focus on to improve.

Thanks a lot!

Jake, One of the reasons I enjoy this shot so much is that it seems very spontaneous and natural. The posing and composition are both unusual and pleasing to they eye but something you're likely to see a thousand times a day on the playground. Although vibrant and bright the colors aren't unnaturally over saturated. Lastly the key portions of the image are in clear focus (her eyes in particular) while the rest of the image is nicely soft. All around an excellent portrait.

Thanks. Is there a reason you like this one over any of the others? Just curious.

As for discouragement...as I mentioned above...I know one shouldn't judge their work by whether or not someone else approves, but I (like you) see some awards given that I look at and say "I've taken better pictures than that" yet they go unrecognized. I perhaps shouldn't have vented here online as I'm afraid this will be taken as a quest for recognition when, really, I just needed to vent.

Get our Christmas card yet? :-)

A great position to capture! See what you mean about having nothing above- really see that great face and expression- looks full of life.

Jake, I'm sorry to hear that you're discouraged. You shouldn't. I have yet to figure out the aesthetic for this site. I look at images posted by some with hundreds of hits that I consider one step above snapshots. Other posters are putting up very compelling images and get very few looks. My opinion is to keep working and posting.

When is the wedding? Don't pull a Jay on me.

Great candid shot of him, Jacob! Excellent expression and pose. I hope to see you coming back, I know it can be discouraging, but your efforts are appreciated!
Dave.
