About As my students were using geo-boards to create plane-shapes, this girl was blown away that she could make a circle (okay, a dodecagon, really, but a circle for first graders).

AND she's an absolute ham for the camera. ;-)

Thanks, Marco. I replied about the DOF to Txules above...instead of typing it over, you can glean what you will from that response. :-)

Thanks, Txules. I appreciate such kind words from someone as gifted at portraits as you are. I'm sure I can open up the lens much more without losing clarity in the whole face though...this image was taken at f2.8 and I find in apertures wider than that that they DOF is too shallow for the entire depth of the face...maybe I could do it in post...

Jake, good to see you've surfaced again. I enjoy the portraits of the kids you've been posting. I agree that reducing the DoF would be a good touch for this portrait.

a most excellent portrait Jacob; the eyes are amazing; I'd tried to diminish the DOF even more; lovely...txules

Haha! Thanks a lot Doyle! Yes, kids are easily blown away. I love using monstrous words in class and teaching them what they mean. Many people would be surprised by the capacity children have for acquiring vocabulary.

One of my students came to school the other day and told me the sunrise was a (and I QUOTE) "beautiful conflagration of color!"

:-o

LoL! LOVE the expression captured here . . . it looks like the expression I'd expect if you told her she just made a dodecagon!!! Heheheheee . . . Ooooh - Oooooooh! MY turn.

---- E ---- H -----

I just made TWO dodecagons! Uppercase outlines of the letters 'E' and 'H' are dodecagons . . . of course . . . she made a regular one so . . .

Fun stuff . . . priceless capture of the expression.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

I do, too, Shirley...this little girl has some of the most beautiful eyes I've seen on a child. :-)
