About Another teacher at school asked me to photograph some of her kids as she didn't have any pictures to remember them by. Krystyan (odd way to spell it, I know), kindergarten student.

Thanks, Becky, for the words of encouragement. I also like the way this image worked out. I can't really claim credit for the pose or look, it was more a "Hey, look up here!" moment in another teacher's room. He is an interesting child to say the least and most people, even those who know him, are left wondering what he is thinking!

Thanks again,
J

I really like this portrait. You aced the expression and mood. The DOF is very effective. I am left wondering what Krystyan is thinking. Keep posting J. Your portraits are full of stories worth sharing and your eye in general is very talented.

Thanks a lot, Doyle! I've never been a giant fan of high key, but probably because I've never been able to pull it off the way I want. Perhaps I just need more practice.

Thanks for the view and comment! :-)

Wonderful conversion and a really well composed image. The eyes are perfect. This might have been a good candidate for a high key artistic study too! Wonderful work.

Thanks a lot, Marco!

I used the same technique I normally use. (all directions given for PS2)

1.)duplicate layer
2.)set blending mode of duplicate layer to "color"
3.)create a channel mixer layer with monochrome checked and adjust channels as desired
4.) adjust hue saturation of "color mode" layer for fine tonal adjustments

I use this method, often with many masks to adjust tones in the image as desired.

:-)

Jake, I really like this portrait. Good crop and good conversion to B&W. What technique did you use to make the conversion?

Thanks very much, Riny...but I believe you have me confused with Albert Jacobs...something that Shirley has done herself!

THanks for the comment all the same! :-D
