Very nice underwater photo, but I wonder if adding a bit more contrast the the photo wouldnt bring out more details. I like the nice upward angle of your picture. Please comment on my Underwater Photo. Regards.
Very inspriring image, makes me want to go get wet again.
You didn't tell us what kind of gear you were working with, but this is a pretty good image. Divers on a coral head is a very difficult scene to capture because of the huge lighting contrasts between the water, the reef and the divers.
Generally, the best approach to this type of shot, assuming your using a camera with a manual override capabilites, is to:
1: Meter the blue background water and set you camera for that setting. You can adjust the deepness of the blue by adjusting the f-stop up/down a 1/3 to 1/2 stop.
2: Position your strobe so the angle of coverage will get the reef and the diver. In this case, in order to properly expose the entire scene, you needed the divers to swim at you over the top of the coral head, or up the side of the coral and be very close to you. This wide of a shot almost has too be taken with a 15mm ultra wide angle from about 1' away from the reef, and with two strobes.
3: If you can't get all of your elements covered, your are going to have to make some choices. In your shot, it looks like the flash hit the top of the coral head. With the position of the divers so far back in the scene it might have been better to angle the strobes downward to allow for the top and front of the coral to be properly exposed and let the divers go darker.
As it was shot, it looks like the strobe dumped and tried to reach the divers, as a result, the coral head top got a touch overexposed and the light never reached the front of the coral head.
4: Watch your background distractions, the one diver in the back takes away a bit from the image.
Post more! I love all underwater images. Despite my rantings, I like it, and guessing that this was not taken wtih a 15mmlens and two big strobes, it is very well done.
