Beautiful shot. Love the green in it. The dress, the tree and the models eyes. Nice pose and expression by Casey also.

Paul,

I do agree that digital is very forgiving on the grain factor, or noise as we know it today.

Thanks again,

Marty

Paul,

Thank you my friend. I'll give her a try... ;)

Nah...the difference between ISO 100 and ISO 400 is almost indistingusihable.

It's not till you get to ISO 800/1600/3200 that you'll have to go back and reduce the noise.

Really.

Why in the world would you set the 580EX on *MANUAL* ? Set it on E-TTL so it can use the expensive logic circuits for what they're designed for! The only reason I think you'd want to use manual would be if you have a light meter, and everything is on a tripod.

Try setting it on TTL mode, and then set the Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC) to -1, and you should get some pleasing results.

Paul,

You just taught me something. I didn't think about, the light balance. Although I really like the darker background on this shot, as it keeps the main thing, the main thing. IMHO

When I mentioned the 1/60th I was just backing out the shutter speed to get the ISO down to 100.

Great shot,

Marty

Paul,

Thanks for the info, but I have the same Sto-Fen as you. I just thought you might shed a little light on what to put the 580EX and camera settings at, as well as the angle of the flash head.

I usually shoot in manual and I can't seem to get the damn thing to work right.

Thanks,

Marty

Oh, BTW, I agree that 1/60th probably would have provided a better balance between ambient light and my flash. ;)

Yes, Martin, this was using my 580EX.
I had a Sto-Fen Omni Bounce attached to the head:

Paul,

Wonderful DOF, focal length, lighting and cropping. Although I might have dropped the ISO to 100 and used 1/60th shutter speed. Just a thought.

Did you use your 580EX? If so, Please share that info with me, as I hate almost all of my shots using mine. I'm sure it's just me and not the flash, but I can't get the hang of it...

Well done indeed my friend,

Marty

Nice skin tones and a natural expression from your model, Paul. I would like to see a little more brightness in the background for a balanced lighting effect.

Ahhhhhh! Casey! She's so pretty and you seem to be able to bring forth the 'soul' from her eyes. Nice work Paul.
