Hi Maurizio. "Walking the Fence" is a political term we use in reference to politicians that won't take a firm stand on a political issue in fear they will lose votes from one side or the other, so they take a safe way out and their stand will be right in the middle so nobody gets upset. I'm sure you got some of those in Italy. Ciao and I hope I was helpful.
