Oh, WOW, Robert! There is so much to this superb portrait that I like!
* The cross - to me it - becomes - the connecting subject of the photo. Man - God - Creation are all connected.
* The bird - powerful subject with great eye contact.
* The man's thoughtful gaze looking away. Here again the cross connection - His thoughts.
* The architecture - old, and strong with pleasing lines bringing the eye into the subject. Nice use of the building's corner for these lines!
* Excellent tones.
I know my impression is probably far from reality - maybe he did not like his picture taken and was getting ready to get up and leave!  But the impression was there for me! Great photograpy!
