About The Pirates Handshake

In times gone past, the world was not such a civilised place. Tyranny ruled and those of us who would be the most devious would be the ones who succeeded and, at the end of the day, survive.

See, when the world is as mean as she is today we must fend for ourselves in ways we may never have dreamed of in our innocent youth, when as babes we sat on our mothers laps and dreamed of adventures at sea. Guess I was a good lad growing up… it only took that one moment for me to change… the moment they came and took my dear ma away; the moment they dragged her off, screaming, by her hair.

She had me well hidden… saved my skin she did, as any loving pure woman would do; and as I peeked out and saw all from behind the stairwell, I vowed that day to get even.

Many moons had passed since that dreadful day… many seasons and experiences twisted me into who I am now. Of that I am not ashamed, nor proud. I’ve just done what I needed to do to survive… I’ve done what I needed to do to get even.

As I grew I wandered… connecting in the right places… making a name for myself. They ended up calling me black beard. See a lad like me just don’t have time nor patience to shave and anyway, some folk found my face very intimidating without the thing… amazing how people open up to one with a beard rather than one with a face full of scars don’t you think?

Finally my connections led me to the right place… the right person… the right information.

I met him once. Sick to my stomach I was. Wanted to squeeze the life out of him right there and then but the timing was wrong… instead I made him a deal he could not refuse... see his greed was my gain… even shook his hand to seal the pact & his fate.

I chased my ghost’s right here, to this smugglers harbour. I’d previously arranged the deal to bring retribution to my hand & as a result gained so much more. Could not have hoped for better... see he brought me some nice shiny loot as payment for a deal that would never come to pass.

As he lay at my feet dying his eyes at first showed confusion, and as they clouded over with his last view of life, his last view of his persecutor, I spat the name of my dear ma in his face.

See it’s one thing to shake hands with a Pirate… but if you believe that means anything at all, then you misjudge us too greatly… We have only two laws, the first revenge, the second self preservation.
