I like the drop shadow in the version 2 but I don't like what you did with the background in version 2. If you were looking for 3D feel, you might have tried just drop shadowing the portion of the bull/rider that came out of the frame. I would have to go back and look again but I am pretty sure you drop shadowed the whole layer.
I do like the premise here. Very cool idea.
Best wishes, Dave

Hi Doyle! A great action shot with very fitting oob work; well done! One thing which might improve this is adding a slight shadow behind the oob part.

Thanks Ameed! I had done this and with the wonderful suggestions it drew I made the Version 2 to see what people thought (and you saw IT first) . . . most people seem to prefer the original which was my instinctive version. It's nice to know that suggestions notwithstanding . . . I had the right idea. More nice to know those that see the V2 seem to prefer this one!! But even more nice to know that here on UF . . . you can get ideas on how to improve . . . get suggestions . . . try them . . . and then keep or discard them. Very nice!

No need to apologize . . . your thoughts are your thoughts Dennis. To my eye the BG cowboys ARE out of focus . . . (Then again maybe it's my eye that's out of focus! LoL!) And I absolutely agree that the presentation is contrived . . .
conˇtrive - v. conˇtrived, conˇtrivˇing, conˇtrives 1.To plan with cleverness or ingenuity; devise. 2.To invent or fabricate, especially by improvisation.
Nothing natural about this frame! LoL!

The guys in the background are a little pixelated - come to think of it it looks like the entire background belongs to another shot - a video still maybe - that has been edited in. I'd prefer those two cowboys in the back were out of focus so that the emphasis was indeed placed on the one riding the bull. And I would have definitely chosen a different presentation. This one is totally contrived.
Sorry Doyle Cheers, D

My Dear Annemette . . .
While I know you and Marlyce (and likely a few others here on UseFilm) might have enjoyed pictures of me on that bull . . . the fact is I would likely have tamed the bull and rode him about like a pony. Imagine how the cowboys would feel for an inexperienced person like myself to shame them in that manner! So, in consideration of their feelings . . . I chose NOT to ride. Because that's the caring, giving, kind of guy I am! :)

Wow, Doyle! So you went to the fair, too! A great shot where the presentation and crop makes me feel like the bull´s bursting out from the scene. The bull looks very determined to get rid off the man and the strings. I hope you didn´t go for a ride although it would have been a great shot for Marlyce to get;-)))))) Take care, Annemette

James:
Absolutely - It would be my pleasure and it's not really all that difficult. I use PS Elements 4 but many editing programs will allow similar work though in a slightly different methodology.
First I made a copy layer of the shot . . . then I drew the line on the lower layer where I wanted the crop to be. Delete everything you want OFF the picture on that layer (even what you will want ON that layer which might be over the line . . . and then, while staying on that layer view . . . switch to the upper layer. Select or trace everything to the right of the line you want left in the shot but outside the frame and subtract it from the selection. In this case . . . it was the bull and rider. This will take time and to be accurate you must zoom in closely. It is absolutely essential that you take your time here and be accurate. Once that area is removed from the selection . . . you can then delete the selection from the upper layer.
Switch back to the lower layer and fill the deleted section with (243, 243, 243 - RGB) color which is an off-white and the BG color for UF.
Flatten the image. Viola!
My thanks go to Hugo DeWolf who was kind enough to give me the exact numbers for the UF BG when I asked (I could see it wasn't white). It helped a great deal!
All additional questions . . . please send an e-mail to me at the address in my bio . . . I would prefer not to get into too technical a dissertation under my photo.
But thanks so much for your interest . . . It's very nice and I take it as a compliment!

Ride 'im cowboy....Yeeha! Whatever!! Great. The first still shot I have ever seen of this famous rodeo event Doyle. An awesome capture with stunning impact, though not as great an impact as this luckless cowboy probably suffered. This is a wonderful action shot and I personally think the finished presentation is fabulous and so very imaginatively creative. A total winner IMO and again I am in awe of your total commitment to these projects. Well done to you my dear friend. Very best wishes......Ray

I think it would help this tremendously if you'd add a very soft, diffused shadow behind rider and bull on the white segment, Doyle.
