Not at all, in fact as I looked more at the shot the less I felt it needed any real adjustment. In the end the shots we take need to impress only one person, the one taking the shot.

Thanks Chad. I find I prefer far lower levels of saturation than most people on Usefilm. I very often get comments like yours above (but must confess I very rarely feel inclined to do as suggested). A personal thing to do with my desire to be faithful to the image as I remember it, and with colours seeming natural. To me, that is. Hope this doesn't put you off.

This is a good shot Roger, I immidietly recognized it as I used to live in Nakano and I think I know the camera shop you mentioned. What I would do though would be to put it through PS and possibly adjust the colors a bit to punch them up a notch. I know you were in a train so likely limited on what you could shoot but the bus stop itself could make a interesting image. I look forward to more of your virtual tour.

Here's one taken three years ago when Usefilm size limits were stricter, Jessie. Kind of hard to show a panorama well, but it gives a different feeling to this area (shot from almost exactly the same spot).

Yep. The tofu man can still be heard. We also hear the occasional waste-paper collector in his little truck and the guys who collect old computers, refrigerators, stereos, etc. All part of the culture. [BG] Not exactly Old Edo, but in that tradition.

heya roger. i thought the smells and sounds made the scene, you know? sort of like being in india - the pictures don't really show the whole experience, like i found in japan, too. somehow, i think that much of the US is so sterilized. you know?? how abt the tofu guy riding his bike around?? please tell me he still does!!

Hmmm. I don't think Tokyo has that many SMELLS you'd want to treasure or experience again. Or noises, for that matter. Politicians' loudspeaker vans? Right-wing agitators? Remember those?? I have a panorama of this spot somewhere that gets the Nakano Sunplaza building in. Oh, and a few of the arcade. My favourite second-hand camera shop is just near here.

roger, i love this photo, i am so glad that you took it. it reminds me of my own time in japan, and how completely overloaded my senses were. it is so BUSY there, visually. i think you captured that quite well!! now, we need a scratch and sniff and an audio, eh?? wonderful shot!!

It's a very busy composition and one of those that I am content to let my eyes wander over, sampling all the different details to be seen. To a degree I understand John's opinion but it all depends what the photographer is setting out to do and what the viewer wants to see.
I think you were experimenting with the D200's ability to cope with this situation and as such I think you and it did well. I love the colour tones of which there is a huge range and the depth is very impressive as well. Clarity is excellent and I have already expressed my love of letting my eyes explore the varied details.
Yes....you should continue in this genre Roger and now and again arrange to have a bus turning:):)

Thank you, Tanaka San. John's idea of a bus turning into the parking area is a good one. Unfortunately my train was drawing into the platform when I took this, so I didn't have any more time... I'm glad you think the light makes for good viewing. I will be trying to explore this theme in coming days, now that I have a DSLR and get instant feedback on image quality.

A promising shot, Roger!!! The quality of the shot is much better, clearer and with well deliniated details.Like John Miller said just find something to catch the eye and fix the composition.

Hi Roger! It seems a bit of a pity that CC'd images are not getting more comments.
I certainly agree with your comment about the time of day - as the natural light goes, the artificial lights come on and enhance the colours. I feel that perhaps in this image you could have waited until just a little later when the artificial light creates a purple cast in the sky (at least it does on this side of the world!)
But I do like the colours here, and there's lots going on. Perhaps just lacking a central point of interest? Maybe a bus just turning in, or a view slightly further back with a train just entering the image?
Whatever, it's a time of day I love also and I urge you to explore this further. Just the sort of experimentation that a digital is good for...

PS. I'd forgotten about those 90 degree rotated traffic lights! They are great!
