Very much like it as a portrait, great lighting and colour too. The only thing that bothers me is that grain... I have noticed that in pretty much all of your photos I looked at. Are you using your camera at a very high ISO setting?

I think this is the best version of this shot. The muted colours are gorgeous against the black background, the browny red of the instrument especially. To my mind, this image also works if it's cropped horizontally from the top of his left upper arm. Regards, Gary

Excellent picture! It almost looks like a work from Caravaggio with the spot light on his face and on the instrument he is playing. Very well done, it keeps the focus on what is important in this picture. Shame about the metal music stand and the microphone that are in the way though.
