About Converted from color, a beautiful purple orchid that nevertheless lacked impact. Thank you for looking and for telling me what you think!

Very well done, I'd say. I haven't yet tried approaching orchid from the back, and this has inspired me.
The B&W conversion really gave it an impact, given the beautiful patterns that the orchid has. Very nice. I think the DoF is okay, but if possible more DoF would be more desirable.

Thank you for your comment on my picture too. Regards.

Good call, Gayle! I absolutely agree about the IR look but hadn't put my finger on it; overall soft texture, low contrast, and blur. I wasn't impressed with this in color, and did also rotate and crop it for this composition. Controlled conversion to BW did the trick, I think. Thanks for your comment! Regards,
Tim

This is intriguing as an image. Choosing the posterior view detailing an element of the flower not usually put forward rather than the more typical study of the detailed flower lip is indepently creative. Using a color title for a black and white image is very wonderful. It encourages my mind to complete the image.

Thankyou for your constructively critical analysis, Anson. I agree in part with your suggestions, and would have liked a bit more DOF, but in this case for me the overall impression is nevertheless strong and somewhat independent of focus as the lines serve to link the forms. This is to me less a representative capture of a flower and more a rather abstract image. I wonder too if you viewed it only as a "large" image? I almost reduced the size a bit for posting to ensure that the whole image always appears onscreen. Just a thought.
I do appreciate the critique, though. That's what I'm here for, and it certainly helps me to finetune my efforts by hearing the reaction of the audience. Thank you!

An interesting view of a very diffult subject to photograph in color, a purple orchid, at least the dark purple ones I have access to. The interest and focus of this photo is the curling center part of it, with some attention drawn to the upper right by the strong focus. I think this photo would be greatly improved by increasing the depth of field, since the emphasis on the curving center part seems a littl lacking. I dont see a flower but parts that are in focus, which is OK if those parts, within themselves can carry the picture. In this case, unfortunately, they do not. Hope I have not been too critical, Tim, but that is the way I see it. Thanks for your comments on the ginger leaves. Anson

Behind and with inverse direction: we are used to see flowers that spring out of the frame, your sink down! Original and well composed, a good work for me.
Tim, ten minites ago I too wanted to post a B&W picture but it looked too dark after the uploud and so I changed it.
Ciao.

Giuseppe
