These are petroglyphs, rock drawings left by the ancient Anasazi indians. These drawings were thought to signify the locations of water and game. This was shot at Valley of Fire state park about an hour North of Las Vegas just off I-15.
It's amazing over hundreds of years how these petroglyphs have remained on the walls of the canyons. The colors against the red rock are beautiful.
I don't know if you have even seen a picture I had posted called "Lady in the Swing" (I believe it may be in my vacation portfolio). I don't think it's a petroglyph, but it appears in the wall of the canyon.
Nevada and Arizona are truly a photographers paradise. I look forward to more pictures of your adventures in this great area.
