Bro,
Send it up. Always liked that Orange Juice song. Been looking for it lately, probably as a result of hearing about the book... Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley were tied together somehow, I think Howard was in the original Buzzcocks... Skatilites I can't remember off the top of my head... yes they are being managed by a mutual friend of ours! ust received a copy of the dvd of the video. Looks great, but I think the actual mix is a little bit muddy. And lacks some bottom in places. I can't help thinking that Lenin and MacCarthy would have done a... shabbier job.

By the way have finished reading "Rip it up and start again" a weighty tome about the post punk thing. Terrific read... Answers such questions as why did Magazine never make it big. Should I post it up?

What remains of the specials coming in a couple of weeks to your city l.j. and the skatalites, who I vaguely remember hearing (formed in 64)! Could be useful for the band as far as showmanship goes. Where is this and are they being managed by a mutual friend?

Very much a reggae band feel here Ian... a nine peice band going off is what you're seeing here. Shooting a video for a cover of an old Osibisa song Sunshine Day. The lighting was just glorious. Probably my favourite shoot so far ths one...

Hi Hugo,
Thanks for your comments... you're absolutely right about the tones, but it was down to the lighting. There was a lot going on here. Example: the wall was actually white (are you reading this too Ian?). But that was one of the things I loved about this shoot was the colours from the lighting and how it was changing the already bizarre appearance of the musicians, and I specifically wanted to preserve those colours. The caste probably isn't as strong as you think it is - I suspect the only white clothing in the photo is the jacket work by the guy in the extreme right background... thanks for the observaton about the overly-centred composition - it's something I'm constantly guilty of.

Good idea changing the arty farty title "^", don't know what that was about
I think you pretty much know how I feel about these. Tight group shot, Tonga playing trumpet, hands reaching up... perfect moment.
I do see what Hugo means about the yellow, but since I KNOW it's the lighting, you da man!

Where oh where can I get a eurovision pink backdrop like this? Will they be going to see the specials? Very much approaching the look of a big old ska band here.

Hi Laqurie, The strongest element in this shot is how every line in this image builds up the composition around the guy with the trumpet. Eventhough the composition itself is rather centered, with a slight lean towards the right, the build up and lines prevent any static element. I usually don't care much for those simplified titles, but the ^ describes the key element in this shot pretty well.
Very good image quality too, but the tones seem a tad yellow. Might be the lighting, too.
Either way, a very good shot, and an intricate composition.
Cheers,
Hugo
