I like old, used materials.
Thanx for your comment on "C R E A T I O N". I used the sunlighted wall as background.

Beautiful colors and I like your choice of the dof... yes it helps the story of mystery you are telling here... but the framing... or actually the cropping is not adding much... may be if the lighting was more selective, dimming some areas, and spot on others... or graduating the light from the forground to the back, to enhance the feeling of the depth... don't know... you may also try desaturating the picture, or color it in sepia, to add more drama... just my little suggestion, because the photo is really good.

I like the angle that it was taken at. This photo makes me want to peer inside. Maybe just a little more DOF to bring more of the lock in focus. Nice work though!

This photo has such rich colour and wonderful warm tones, which is precisely why it doesn't convey mystery to me. It has more of an antique, nostalgic feel. The propped open lid and lock slightly unhinged provide some nice shadow and line, but I didn't get a sense of mystery from it until I read your comment. I do think more dramatic lighting will help, perhaps b&w, and maybe getting so close to the lock as to make it a bit unidentifiable.
I don't think this photo met your goal, but I still think it's a great photo in and of itself. I particularly like the texture of the metal and how you captured the scratches there. Really nice!

For mystery, it might have more impact with less light/more shadow and shot with a contrsty b&W film.

Thank you for taking a look Matt, and for the comment. It was the macro lenses that kill the DOF, but for this shot I wanted more of a selective focus on just the lock, to give more of a secretive feel. I will play around with angles more! Since you do find the DOF distracting, it's obviously not doing its job as being mysterious. I'm not sure if more DOF would do that, so keeping in mind the context, any more opinions on how to make this stand out? Maybe more dramatic lighting on just the lock?

I am surprised that with a wide angle and f/8 you didn't get more depth here. But if you were willing to go with 1/2 sec. why not stop down as far as possible and shoot longer? The exposure and saturation look good to me, but I think I would have shot this more directly, instead of at such an angle. That way you are flattenening the subject plane somewhat and thereby making more of the subject in-focus.

I would appreciate any comments on this shot... framing, DOF, etc. Thank you!
