About This bird and I have a disagreement. This is one of many of this species that come and annoy me. I can be standing right beneath him with only about a meters distance between us and have the hose turned on him and he will just look at me. Our argument has been ongoing now for about two years. We often have up to 30 of these birds hovering overhead because of our aviaries but this one seems to be very determined and brave.

So this time I decided to shoot him with my lens. And thought you may like to see him.

He is about 50cm in length and about a meter across his wing span. I presume he is a Red Goshawk. If you know any more about this species please let me know.

Great clear shot Judi, nice colors and DOF! Did you try this lens for birds in flight? Is it fast enough? best regards, Pawel

Beautiful clarity, color and DOF Judi! We have aviaries too and never have a problem with these birds. About three to five feet above the aviary roofs we have a corrugated translucent roof. And we live thousands of miles away from you! (Try putting up a sign that says 'Hawk tastes like chicken!') - ;) Truly a good picture!

Doyle <-----

Pesty, but pretty Judi, interesting how he is so brave huh? Annoying I understand. We have deer we can't keep out of our bird feeder. One is lame, so touches one's heart a bit too. Spring is upon us, maybe they can fare better themselves.

Maybe he's only waiting that you open your aviaries, Judi. Give him a chance;-) Great catch anyway.

Very Nice Judi, Although I suspect a brown Goshawk as the red is one of the rarest hawks in Australia although very close in appearance to the brown, when one is seen It usually makes news. They are very simular also to the sparrowhawk in photos, but the SH is much smaller. whatever the case wonderful sharp crisp captures! So If I am right what do I WIN?

Great shot Judi,
Marcus will be proud of you!
The same kind of thing happens here in Canada too.
You set up a bird feeding station and the local cats and hawks think you have opened a restaurant for them :)

Good capture of him, Judi! He's there anyway, you might as well make it into something useful! It's better than to have to go chasing across fields to get a good shot. Great clarity and detail.
Dave.

Great pictorial record of the bird, would have been an excellent wild-life shot if it weren't for the bottom of the image, with the wire etc... I'm sure you'll be able to sort that out in PS.

Lovely sharp image!

Regards,
Ciprian
