About "What is up above you will find below"

A saying that is often true - I am following up on a series on the "Appearance of Rust". This is number 8 in the series.

All photos were taken on subjects in my backyard which are in a natural process of oxidation. Most of it on an old painted 44 gallon drum. My aim is to find patterns, textures and colours that echoes possible scenes from this world and even the universe. So please take on your imaginary glasses and tell me if you see what I saw, or something different or ...nothing at all!

These are all at the super-macro level (magnification ratio of 2:1 and closer). I used my Nikon 105 micro lense with a 2.75X Panagor macro converter. All settings on manual, the built-in flash and /or ringflash on manual, full strength. Not tripod used. All photos are uncropped. All colours are as I found them - the only changes made were adjustments of brightness and contrast.

Lava flow... that's what I see in this one.. though think the gold & orange colours sways it for me... almost fire like... another excellent addition to this project.

Well, Joggie, after reading your "about", I put on my imagination glasses and studied this forever. I could not come up with anything other than what my first impression was when I decided to click on the thumbnail. I assumed I was going to ge tot see a close-up of toxic water. I guess the blue made me think that.

Excellent study of something so "in your face" and easily obtained. You are inspiring me to get into some macro photography.

Best,
Dave

Putting you microscope to rust is a great idea, Joggie! I can't say I read much into it, i.e. no faces of Mother Theresa! I like the colour an textures very much.

Nice, Joggie. I thought from the thumbnail that this was some sort of a wave of liquid..... I find that this is rust even more impressive. Keen eye my friend.

Thanks for the comment 1301307 - You are right the depth on the metal surface is less then 0.5mm. The illusion of depth are created by the tonal gradation of the colours. Take care.

Joggie, I've never seen rust look so good. And, yes, I see the expansion. Micro & Macro are the same.

wonderful abstract, I know that you have taken this on a flat surface as you have explained in your about but i see depth. Maybe its because of the dark outline like shadows. The blue because of its gradiation in tones to darkness appears to be further beyond, like the universe..
beautiful contrasting colors...
regards...
