About The H'mong probably originated in China, although some scholars have suggested they may have entered China originally from Tibet, Siberia or Mongolia. In any case, their ancestry goes back many centuries, yet many of their customs survive to this day. Persecuted and marginalized for most of their history at the hands of Chinese feudalists, they began migrating from China about two hundred years ago. That migration has recently taken hundreds to the USA and Australia, as refugees from The Lao People's Democratic Republic following the end of the American war in Vietnam and the liberation of The Lao PDR by the former Soviet Union. Among the religious influences from the Chinese on H'mong spiritual traditions are practices and customs borrowed from Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.

I shot this in Hagiang province, near the boundary between Vietnam- China on 8th Feb 2006.

Like someone said : such a young face, yet her hands show how hard she must be working. I love her expression.

just after a 2nd look, notice how her face is child like but yet her hands show the weathering of hardship. Stunning shot.

Nason!

The world needs you (and anyone you care to appoint) to redesign all the city centres... to remove the ripples of chilled silence and replace them with communal communicativeness and fun.

Yeah!

this is a great all around portrait, vibrant, colorful, alive. The beauty of the girl is without question... and there is innocence here as well. beautiful capture, well done.

Absolutely FABULOUS!! I love the composition! The colors are engaging, the DOF is perfect, the expression is compelling! Super!! I hate to just gush. I guess if I had one suggestion, it might be to consider sharpening her right eye (when looking at the picture) just a tiny bit. That is just a minor, minor, minor point of a great picture!!!
