Good shot of the trees in the snow, Larry, you've retained some good detail in the snow, not always easy! I actually like the composition of the original shot better.

Good comments, I posted here to see what reactions I get to a pretty abstract photo and see if too much white space at bottom would be an issue. Didn't crop or blow up the shot, pretty close to what I originally took, may be soft due to high ISO setting, it was overcast winter day with medium light. I have posted a trimmed version and took your advise on trees filling more of the frame. Thanks.

These types of images always catch my eye because of their graphic high-contrast nature. You certainly have the white snow and black bark well-defined. I also appreciate that you were able to record some texture in the snow.

After studying this a while, it seems to me that the composition would be stronger if more of the vertical included trees. Perhaps a better way of saying it is that I wish that trees flled more of the frame. Having all of the interest shifted to the top of the frame risks the viewer missing that white fade-out at the bottom.

If you had more trees in the frame and shot from a little farther back, the snow/bark contrast might appear a little sharper, heightening the graphic nature of your image. Right now the edges look soft, or as if this is a crop and enlargement from another image.

If only we had some snow here sometime, I'd be able to try out these ideas myself...maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about, but there is something needed here.

Did you have specific questions or challenges with this image?
