Chuck,
Thank you for this photo - it shows something that just doesn't get shown in the mainstream media. For every horrible, cowardly terrorist attack on innocent Iraqis, there are thousands of scenes like this that go under-reported.
Ironically, when I read Kambiz' posts, the very very first thing I thought of is the very photo that you posted - it shows Major Mark Beiger of the Fort Lewis Stryker brigade when they were deployed in Mosul, deparately trying to save the life of the little Iraqi girl, Farah, a victim of an "insurgent" (i.e. terrorist) attack. Sadly, she died in his arms.
Thanks to the amazing sacrifice of Major Beiger and thousands of US troops like him, the situation in Mosul is much improved since this photo. There is a long way to go, but there has been much progress and now a lot of hope for the Iraqis in Mosul.
The photo was taken by independent writer Michael Yon - I recommend his reports from Iraq to anyone who really wants to see what's going on - http://www.michaelyon-online.com/
Best regards, SteveR

Nice to see photograph of a sight not normally viewed in the press. Kids acutally waving and smiling at the troops. Wonder what Mr. Binladen would think of that.

My friend johancharles ,
Good early morning from Qatar.
First thing to start with, thank you very much for your comment on my image “The Sky on Fire” that was very nice of you and I do appreciate it a lot. Second , please forgive me for my poor English . Third, I must tell you that once upon a time, I always dreamed to be “A Front War Zone Photographer”, but I had to kill that idea rather than to see innocent people getting killed. I’m sure you also feel the same like me and I will never believe that you are by any means different then being a good human and with wonderful feelings and spirits. Your images are of very high skill and you are a very talented photographer and I did enjoy your skill a lot but also please my friend, let us all pray to live in peace, die in peace and not into pieces! And finally , I would always like to see your comments on my images, please so from there I will learn more and do better work . All of the best friend. 7+++

Kambiz,
This picture was released by the U.S. Army Tuesday, May 3, 2005 shows a U.S. Army soldier comforting a child fatally wounded in a car bomb blast in Mosul, 360 km (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad, Iraq, Monday, May 2, 2005. 15 Iraqis were wounded in the combined suicide bomb attack. I didn't not take this photo --- but this is what insurgents do --- they don't care who they hurt...and they don't help the wounded --- the only people they care about is themselves...

Kambiz,
I know what I would do...I would help...and I have helped both military and civilians after an insurgents have set off their bombs. Insurgents don't care who they hurt...
Again, I quess you don't hear...I have tried to be respectful...this is a photo site...for photogrpaher to share their images...
While in Iraq...I saw what insurgents are capable of doing...they are the ones killing civilians by setting off VBIEDs, IEDs, and other explosive devices...these are the same people that take people and chop off their heads...or fly planes into Blding or blow up subways...they do not care who they hurt...so Mr Kambiz...enough is enough..if you wish to comment on my photos...please feel free, but leave the poltics at home.
Best Wishes, Chuck

John I know you are a War Photojournalist. Sometimes I wonder if I was instead of you, do I put my camera away and help an injured person or not? I am very sure that I would do it, because when I see suffering people specially without any justfication in any forms, my heart bleeds. We have a persian poem which says: Every human being are from one origin and are similar to limbs of one unique body, When a limb gets hurt, the other parts could not live in peace!! I am very sure when you see a child is in misery in a war zone, if you have a child, he/she reminds you about your child. I believe everybody has heart to care. I lile military JUST FOR DEFENDING, NOT ATTACKING poor people who are not related to any forms of F**** politicians. Look at our recent history, US miltitary based on some lies, attacked Iraq and occupied that country just for their oil. As a result the poor people suffer every day. Is it just?? Again US military people took so many innocent men to a primitive prison in cuba for more than 3 years without giving them basic Human Right such as having a soilicitors, etc or perhaps allowing visiting their poor families. IF THIS scenario was in a REVERSE form. I am very very sure that US governments sent special force to release her POW/MIA from those prison. (I am very sure you are familiar with Vietnam war! and it's story of American POWs). If I was an American soldier and asked me to go to an unjust war or attack, I would protest and prefer to go Court Marshall rather than killing people.

Great moment captured Chuck, it's nice to see there is goodwill even in times of war. Certainly it looks like everybody is out in the street, I see some four women and what looks like a family gathered at the gate, watching. I like how you framed this shot with the waving hand and the dust in the foreground, followed by the street groups. Best regards, Ina

Dave,
Thank-you, actually there are a lot of times like this. Unfortunateley what sells in the news is the bad -- the shock value. I will post a few more images like this throughout the week - so as to so a different side of Iraq. As always Dave "Thank-you" for opening my eyes and your feed back.
Best Wishes, Chuck

Kambiz,
Don't stereo type - that would be like me saying that everyone in the middle-east is a terrorist or insurgents -- And we know this not to be true - My time in Iraq, I met some very nice and kind hearted people, and it saddens me to see war -- in any country.
So please be respectful - this is a site that photogrpahers can come together and share their skills and critique on another --
Thank-you and Best Wishes, Chuck

I remember one of them told me, "never trust soldiers, because they killed so many innocent moms and dads".
