What a great shot. I like the fact that the crack in the tree could also be mistaken for a gorge in some mountains depending on the eyes looking at it and from different distances.

I don't know, how old and what kind of tree was this and why was it cut down.
This photo was made in Tsarskosel'sky park near Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
To my mind, this tree was very old and sick, therefore it was cut down.
