hi, this one appeals to me as i can relate very much to standing in various weather just to get a few hits from my menthols!...bad habit,i know, but my only vice ;>
like the tone, dof and the subject matter...our state of WA passed a no-smoking law this past December and you can't even smoke in your car if on business property parking lot!!!
hugs,gayle

Thilo, It's so funny. There are signs up on the doors at work that state that if anyone is caught smoking on company property, it is cause for dismisal. Seems like smokers are in the same catagory as crack addicts now a days. Andre

Hi Andre,
in Germany, this is totally different... for me as a non-smoker, some rules would be great - but not in the way you described it to me. that's terror =)
in this case I have the "rule" that no one should smoke in the living-room. So the girl had to go out on the balcony.
best wishes, Thilo

Hi Ameed,
thanks for the kind words, and a great 2006 to you! In Germany, you can smoke nearly everywhere - but not in my living-room ;-) Thilo

Hi Hugo,
I liked the combination of smoke and coldness here... so no real political point as it's not so dramatic in Germany like in the US =)

Hi Thilo, It seems there is an interesting conversation started by the people making comments on this shot. It is as if you have caused us to create a story or a scenario surrounding the "Smoking Woman" Is she shrouded in shame with her dark hood being forced to smoke outside in the cold? Or is she laughing and joking while talking on a cell phone? It is an interesting phenomenom... people being forced to smoke outside now a days. It is quite comical at my workplace because we have a company rule of no smoking on company property. So, officially smokers can not even smoke in their own cars in the parking lot. All the die-hard addicts have to line up just on the other side of the company property line when taking breaks. They stand out there like penguins in the snow and rain. Amazing to me, but true. You see it happening everywhere in Toronto now. Even bars and night clubs are smoke free! Andre

This picture brings lots of sorrow to me Thilo :) as I smoke, I totally know the feeling, Here in Montreal, at work, I have to go outside the building to have a smoke :( sometimes it is way sub zero, but .. as Hugo said, it is the addiction, you presented all of this in a nice shot, very well done and I wish you happy new year, Cheers buddy,

Hi Thilo, I like the image you created here. Smoking on the balcony or outside because it's no longer politically correct to somke inside...:) So despite the freezing weather, the addiction continues. Somewhat recognisable, I must admit...:)
Cheers,
Hugo
