About
Wow. This is Usefilm at its very best...
So here I am posting a digital stitch of the Grand Canyon earlier today (http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1015854)and I am getting this great comment from John Miller (http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/70233.html). In a constructive critique, John points out a deficiency of the stitch that I had realized before as well. While the foreground is perfect, the horizon in the upper left shows some stitching artifacts. It was just that I did not have the tools nor skills to fix that part. But I have to say, John's comment posed a positive challenge for me to give it another try.
Simultaneously I am having this discussion through image critiques with Roger Williams (http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/23297.html). Roger shared some of his experience and pointed me to the software tool he uses, PTGui. I downloaded a free trial earlier in the afternoon and was just blown away with the control this sophisticated tool gives you over every step in the stitching process. My trial period was only a couple of hours and I just bought a copy for ~US $70.
So here is the picture for a third time, but so much improved due to the Usefilm critique interactions. Thank you very much John and Roger!!
Picture detail: This stitch is made with PTGui from five portrait orientation pictures I took of the "Imperial Point" on tee North Rim of the Grand Canyon in 2001. Taken with the little Canon Elph S100 pocket camera, each image 1200x1600 pixels) and the resulting stitch is 4017x1526. Sorry, no more picture details available as for some reason the EXIF information disappeared from the originals.
Way to go, Jurgen! This is a wonderful panorama, the best possible subject for the genre (I am jealous!). So glad you like PTgui... The Dutchman who created it gives excellent support to users.
