The display jet is a completely standard F16 A which has been through the Lockheed Martin Mid Life Update program. It is the same jet as used by the Dutch frontline squadrons. The Mid Life Update program has increased the capability and effectiveness of the jet by a considerable factor. Improvements have included an greatly updated radar, a new mission computer, improved weapon systems and further enhanced avionics.
The F16 has been in service with the RNLAF since 1979. It has been deployed on a variety of Operations including Operation “Deny Flight” in Bosnia, Operation “Allied Force” in Kosovo and more recently Operation “enduring Freedom” in Afghanistan. The F16 is capable of Air to Air, Air to Gnd and Recce Tasks, and all of it’s pilots are trained for all these tasks.
