  Q. Help for beginners
Thilo Bayer
Asked by Thilo Bayer    (K=50358) on 8/3/2004
Hi there,

I'm relatively new to UF and saw a lot of pictures in this short time. I think the FAQ should contain more information that is helpful for beginners.

To give you some examples:
- Fetching the EXIF information (I saw a lot of pictures made with a digital camera that didn't contain that information; I know that some of these users have Win98 so they need a special tool to fetch the information - and there are a lot of freeware tools that provide this information)
- determining the image size in height and width (some of the users, me included, posted images at maximum size of 800 pixels; you won't see that image full screen unless you press F11 (which most user don't know, btw); at the moment I upload my pictures with maximum of 650 pixels in height so one can see the full height with 1024x768 res on a monitor)
- tipps for getting more attraction for beginners (I saw the thread from Jenny Brown, and I think this is really a problem for some beginners, including me). e.g. chose interesting titles, holding down the image size (the site is not the fastest at the moment) and dimensions, making useful comments, working with the friends list (it's kind of frustrating for a beginner to add people and NOT being added by them), showing/not showing the original image (before rework), commenting on comments, giving commentings viewers some credits in commenting their work etc.
- basic courses: image enhancements with PS (or other programs) etc.

There is a lot more (for sure) that might be added to my suggestions.

Comments are appreciated ;-) [and excuse my English]
