I've heard that Sigma lenses are famous for inconsistently working with Canon cameras. I don't have direct experience with this, but have heard it from many sources. The advice has always been to make sure that your specific lens works with your camera...maybe if the Sigma is an older lens, it won't work so well with the newer Canon body. If the difficulty shows up with your Canon lens, I'd hotfoot it back to the store.
P.S. How much do you LOVE the 10d??

Mary, it was love t first sight, but I am only on page 47 of 189 to go on the instruction book, after having three canon EOS 500'S it was easy to transition to the 10D, but my goodness there is a lot to learn

It is a common problem that third party lenses do not always work well on new Canon cameras. The reason is that those manufactures don't have a license for the Canon mount, so they engineer the lenses "backwards".

When I had this problem, trying the lens in the shop, I have been told that ancient Sigma lenses were not compatible. I use 15-30 and 50 macro Sigma without any problem.

Andre, my Sigma lenses are only six or seven years old? Too old?

Hi Steve, There was a big shift in lens compatibility around the time the EOS3 appeared, with third party lenses not working properly on the EOS3 and other newer bodies. I'd say 7 years old was definitely old enough for this situation. The problem can often be corrected by the updating of a chip in the lens, which can be done by Sigma. I believe that if you contact Sigma, and can provide proof of purchase for the Sigma lens purchased new, and for the new body that forces the change, Sigma will do the repair for free. If you can't prove both purchases I think they charge but I don't think it's too expensive. Contact Sigma to see if this lens can be fixed then moan at them and hope for a free repair! Incidentally, I have also seen a problem with an older Canon-dedicated flashgun causing an error indication on the Eos3, that rather unpleasantly caused the camera to do EVERYTHING except the shutter release - mirror went up etc. I've no idea whether this might affect the 10D, so it's just a "for info". Chris

I have had the same problems with my 10D. My Sigma 28-200 generates the ERR 99 every time. The good news is that this is the only lens this happens to. My 105 mm Sigma macro and 19-35 Tokina work flawlessly.

Thanks for all the input fellow members, Yes, contacted Sigma today ( yesterday was a holiday ) They confirmed that I will get Error messages with my older lenses, simple to fix, they will order ( based on my lens numbers ) a retrofit kit. Should be up and running with all my lenses before my next bush trip in June, thanks again
