  Q. Photolocation

Asked by Christian Gennert    (K=964) on 4/5/2003
Hello fellow photographers!

I am about to take a trip to USA in the beginning of may this year, and now I wonder if there is any good photolocations around Newark, New Jersey.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

/Christian

About an hour's train ride North of NYC and Newark is a very scenic part of NY/NJ. The nature preserves Bear Mountain State Park and on the other side of the Hudson river the Hudson Highlands. The Hudson river is flanked by hills rising about 1000 ft above the river and the views can be spectacular. Hiking trails everywhere and often well marked.

A little further is West Point, best known as a military academy but also a charming village with much to commend it as photo destination.

Newark is in or next to Orange County which probably also has some scenic spots. The "Delaware Water Gap" is a ridge of hills with several passes cut through. Several parks with hiking trails give opportunities for landscape photography.

Good luck.

Robert

Not so far from Newark is Hoboken. From here, you can get some great shots of New York city from across the Hudson. It's an ideal spot for 4th of July fireworks.

It's probably best getting out of Newark for pictures. Head to the far South in New Jersey for cornfields and you can also get an idea of some parks from http://www.newjersey.com

If you're interested in bird photography, now would be an excellent time to head down to Cape May.
