  Q. D76 alternatives

Asked by Mark Beltran    (K=32612) on 3/18/2005
Are there any liquid concentrate developers that are identical or similar to D76?

Mark,

I stopped using D76 years ago. Never did like it and it was always a mess working with powders. I switched over to TMAX liquid developer for TMAX films, TMAX RS for my sheet film, and use HC110 for non T grain films like Plus-X and Tri-X. They are a pleasure to work with and I feel give better results then D76. There are plenty of other liquid developers out there, you pretty much have to try them and calbrate your procedures and see what works for you. I try now to use only liquids for everything if I can.

I second TMAX - as a liquid developer.
I still prefer Microdol-X but it has to be mixed first.

Phillip, thanks for the hot tip. I've heard of Tmax, but completely overlooked that one. Like you, I'm making the switch to liquids.

Raoul, thank you for letting me know about Tmax developer and microdol-x. Like I told Phillip, I'm switching to liquids. Kind regards,

Mark

I know this is way late, but'm new to Usefilm. To answer your question, I used D76 for years, but have switched to Kodak TMAX. I get excellent results, and I only mix what I need. The concentrate lasts 6 months.

Six months is a good long time, smitys smitys. Another good reason to get some of that stuff. Thanks!

Paterson make a range of liquid developers, all of which are excellent.
