Hello,
I have found that Ansel Adams camera series to be helpful. Also, you can look for Kodak's Joy of Photography. It's an old book, but they constantly update it.
If you want some online help, PhotographyTips.com has sections for subjects, technique, action, ect. After reading some choice options, I revised some of my photo techniques. I am waiting for the roll to come back.
Another good site would be TakeGreatPictures.com. They have a help section, along with columns by pros.
Good luck, and happy hunting, Jason

The "Better Picture Guide To:" series is absolutely fantastic!
Can I also suggest you buy a copy of "UNTAMED ALASKA - 10th Anniversary Edition". This outstanding book by our own Steve Kaufman is amazing!!! Here is a little more about the book itself: http://www.naturephotography.net/untamed.html
I'm sure you'll enjoy and learn from the above like I have.
Regards, Peter

For beginners I always recommend the National Geographic Photography Field Guide by Burian and Caputo.
