Q. photo tips for china

Am off to Beijng and other interesting places in China next week. Have been doing lots of research on photo opps. equipment needs, etc . and remembered I hadn't check here.

Anyone have any tips?. We do have a day and a half on our own in Beijng and of course don't want to visit those areas that our structured tour will be making (which are the usual sites one would expect)

I had penciled in the Temple of Heaven, as I know that is not on the standard tour.
A traveling friend keeps mentioning Ghostown, but haven't found anything about that location.
