A very nice setup Pat. The 20D is a awesome camera and the 600mm lens ! wowser your packed for bear !
You really didn't do bad on this shot at all, you have a dark subject surrounded by dead, yellow , bright grass, your are either going to get the grass in good colors and the bison will be dark or your going to get a the bison in good colors with washed out grass. Looks good considering the above. I don't have a 600, only a 400 but I can't emphasize enough the importance of a good tripod/head. Your keepers will increase allot with a steady mount.

Pat, Know the feeling! Thank goodness it went thunk to the side and not kaboom to the ground! Darlene

The tripod was one of those cheap ones for small lenses.....Where it bent was on the top! The floppy head. I couldn't get it tight enough to hold it steady or alone, as I about had a heart attack when the lens went thunk...to the side! :)Pat

Beautiful image Pat! You bent your tripod!!! Incredible! And yes, it is heavy! It is quite a job to reach over and lug it to the car window and plop it on the bean bag, I get a little (well o.k. maybe a lot) sore when I do that but most of the time I set it up and kind of stay in the same spot for a while! Wonderful shot, these guys are big! Can't wait to see them and meet you! Darlene

It's a fine capture of the bull and cow, though, Pat! Dave.

Ron, Don't be afraid of the 100-400 it is a breeze compared to the 600. Do you have the image stablization on it? It is a great lens. I'm just trying out the 600 and not sure I like it at all. I love the way Darlene Boucher uses hers but for me I think it is just too bulky, the wildlife are gone by the time I set it up....well most of the time. Pat

Yes it is washed out. Keep working at it and I'm sure that lens will be 2nd nature soon enough. I recently purchased the 100x400 zoom , found it heavy and intimidating too. I haven't even attached it to my Rebel XT. I'm scared to.
