About here's a shot of Four Tet (aka Kieran Hebden) from a show this week in Minneapolis...this guy records himself with a $20 mic on his computer and mixes all the sounds with free software off the web. it comes together for a wonderfully unique sound...today's psychadelica. he's remixed Radiohead, Kings of Convenience, The Notwist, etc.

this shot: very low light, handheld. i can't believe all the light that's reaching my CCD :)

hola TR,
yes, i really love this camera...for all the reasons you stated. i only wish i had made the jump earlier. as for the noise on this one, i used Neat Image which is a free NR program. i don't know if it's the best out there or not, but it works well enough for me. i'm looking forward to those star trails!

love it! very cool composition and use of dead space. space that isn't quite so dead with those pointy textures up above.

one question: at 1/15 and ISO1600 how on earth did you get such a clean shot? there is no noise that i can see. photoshop? noise map? i gots to know....

tr

ps - i got a 10min star-trail over el capitan coming up that i think you will enjoy ;^)

thanks Carlos! you're right i should email him. if you're interested, check out his album 'Pause.' it's the first one that got me hooked and my favorite. amazon.com will let you listen to little bits of each song. have a great weekend.........

Perfect use of all that black space Todd as it immediately pulls the viewer?s eye to the lighted corner and the marvellous intensity of the artist. A great shot ? an artistic image of an artist you obviously respect (I have to look him up)? I hope Mr. Tet got a chance to see this? I know he would apreciate it even more than everyone else - an email link to UF would do it.

Neat shot, especially handheld at 1/15 and at 1600 iso. Great job!

thanks Thilo...yeah, 1600, obviously there was some noise there, but not too bad considering.

Hi Todd,

that's totally cool stuff! the off-centering and the colorful wires really make up a great night shot. ISO 1600! have to try that as well =)

best wishes,
Thilo

thanks for the comments!

Gayle, do check his music out. amazon.com probably has snippets from most of his albums. my favorite is probably 'Pause.' he is about the polar opposite of electronic music compared with Aphex Twin...very organic shounding stuff.
journalists like the word 'folktronica...' i dunno.

An artist at work! love the way you composed with the negative space filling a majority of the image
I don't use a digital yet,but am sure since it is a Nikon,it will never let you down ;> great punch of color and like the intensity of his face...not familiar with his music and will have to check it out...regards,gayle

i had thought quite hard about whether or not to clone that background...my decision to keep it was probably swayed by shock of having the detail show up in the first place. i'm loving this new camera!

nice capture of a guy that sounds talented...the black space around him is a good compositional choice, but i think the blackness is too much and a little cropping would have a better effect... a frame might also help ;-)
enjoy your new Nikon,Todd !!

Great comp Todd.. I like the choice to put him deep in the corner. I think I'd clone out the background material and just keep it all black. Exceptional anyhow.
