About Have being plaing with my tiny 50mm 1.8 lens - which is quite renowned for its sharpness and good value. This was one of the better shots...

Hi Huw. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
For this type of shot, I like to use manual focus - its just more accurate, and I just have so much more control. Only for large fast moving things (like in sports photography) one really needs and can benefit from autofocus. The one thing about this lense is that it can't focus very close (without a closeup lens or an extention tube) - fine for portaits and most abstracts, but a problem for serious macro work. For a 50mm Macro lens, F/2.5 is more than enough. F1.8 is useful for available light in dark conditions...

Thanks, Dev. Very good perception - and good of you to explain what you liked... Yes - I have read once that most lenses are better than most photographers. While I like good lenses (they just make the few good photos I take even better), it's not the cost that makes them good - its their photo quality and the way the photographer perceives the shot (80% photographer and 20% lens)...

What a beautiful purple. The strong DOF really makes it stand out.

The reason why this pic stands out is just because of the way you have seen this. Without the yellow flower in the background, this would be just like any other capture.

I strongly beleive that photography is all about perspectives. It doesn't matter how expensive your camera or lens are.

Have a nice day !!

Cheers
Dev

Hi Bryan, nice background blur - did you focus manually or with AF? I have the 50 mm compact macro which I think is a great lens, the advantage of yours is the extra stops down from 2.5

Beautiful and happy shot. Love how the happy background compliments the single stem. :) Andree

Hello Bryan. I agree the 50mm eq 75mm is one of (prejudice) best Nikkor prime lenses made. I use to have an old Cannoflex mirror slapper with a 50mm on it. This photo is an example of the great DOF that lens has. Good work.

Regards,

Tom
