This is a lovely photograph - just the right mood colour for the silhouette.
(Rather reminds me of my grandfather's dog years ago - called 'Ruff'. My two cousins and I used to ride on his back, but then we were very small at the time and Ruff may have been a little bigger than Neko...)

Beautiful colours. Great composition. We had a dog once that would just keep going also. Neko vsounds like a terrific pet. Mary

Thanks for the comment, Dirck... I have been missing you around here lately. I hope all is well! As for the mountains... I don't think they will ever be sharp, as I shot this with a telephoto lens and focused on Neko. The mountains are too far out of the range to be in focus, so I've let go of the notion of fixing this. But thanks for taking a look and giving me your thoughts! Cheers

What a wonderful photo, Kim! My first impression was the Neko was looking out at the sunset - a brief break in the playing to admire the colors in the sky (what a romantic notion, eh? :), but I can see now that he's looking expectingly at you, wondering why you aren't charging in once again to throw his stick! I think you balanced this composition really nicely, with Neko slightly to the right, and the larger mountains off to the left... I can see the halo that Konstantin mentioned, although the rest of it looks like it could actually use a little *more* sharpening. Sorry I haven't been commenting recently! I really want to go back and leave some words on those adorable puppy photos, though!

Great shot. The colors are so soothing and it just makes me want to go to the beach with my dog. Very moving photo.

Thanks so much for the crit, Konstantin. That's why I post here, in hopes of learning more! I thought that there was a little bit of a halo over Neko's head/stick area, so I refrained from using the USM before posting this. Obviously it was sharpened once before and that is when I overdid it. I'll have to take a look at the original. Thanks for your comment!

I paged over this picture couple of times before deciding to leave my footprints! First, the feeling is known and I am not the only one. It's great to see the affection portrayed in pictures especially when they're well done. It's here and it's also quite touching and sentimental.
Technically, I'd say everything is right except for a tad too much sharpening noticable in Neko's haloed contour and his beloved stick. Other than that...well you wanted some critique, didn't you? :)
Regards, Konstantin

Maybe he did pause for a moment to enjoy the setting sun (or more likely he was thinking about how much he loves sticks! *grin*) As mentioned above I used an enhancing filter on this shot... it brings out colours between the yellow and red spectrums. Matched with the Velvia this vibrant scene blossomed. Thanks for the comments, Jim (and everyone else)!
