This is a picture of an ant colony that made its home inside a hi-fi portion of a working GPS receiver. They made it through multiple weather- and insect-proof enclosures.
The device kept on working with the eggs and larvae in it, but as soon as adults started to swarm out, they started causing interference and the device malfunctioned.
The picture was taken as part of device "necropsy", after heavy fumigation cleared or killed all adults -- they were biting, too.
