Thanks for that info - I read that they come April-August, is that right? We LOVED it there. It was so amazing and the people were great. We had a spectacular time and the snorkeling was very cool in Manzanilla at the tide pools.

Hi Cheryl, these turtles come to Ostional beach to lay their eggs at least 14 times per year. Out of 8 marine turtles, Costa Rica is visited by 6 species. It?s an incredible biological event. More than 1 million of this Ridley Olive turtles have been register to arrive in the famous "arribada". I saw one of these arribadas last year. Few events in nature are that impressive. The whole beach is covered with turtles. There is not space to walk. This incredible show last per 3-4 days. The young turtles are the first to arrive and the old ones are the last ones. To avoid predators and to be able to follow their path back to the ocean, these reptiles wait for dark, moonless nights to lay their eggs. I hope next time you go to Costa Rica, you'll be able to see them. I also recommend you the Caribbean Coast. Tortuguero National Park is another great place to see Leather back turtles and the Green turtles.
Take care.
