awsome ... forget all rule of thirds... n any freakin rule ... i like this pic....n the reason is that huge empty gray space.... n suddenly a colorful cyclist... that whats interesting..

I do agree with Grant regarding wanting to see a little more road in front but I also like the broken rule of thirds which makes this shot unique. Somehow this man seems enveloped by the world and his daily tasks yet he is breaking from the fog in outstanding colors! Great shot!

You may or may not be aware of the 'rule of thirds' in classical composition. Essentially it states that a strong composition will have its point of interest approximately at a point 1/3 of the way into the frame, both horizontaly and vertically (I hope I've stated that clearly and accurately). Rules, of course, are made to be broken and there's no such thing as a hard and fast rule, but in this case I think it would have helped. More of the road would have shown, for one thing, giving more sense of place and making the bicycle easier to identify. For another, the dominant sky, while still being dominant, would not appear to be 'pressing' the bicyclist out of the frame so. This is a wonderful picture, moody and elegant; I don't mean to denigrate your awesome effort -- it IS a great pic. I just wanted to put my two cents in, perhaps in the hope of inspiring others to seriously critique my own work. I've given up rating images, each being so unique, suffice it to say that I think this is a good one.
